The perimeter is a fence around.
P = 2L + 2W
W = L-17
Take the known value of W from the second equation and put it into the first.
P = 2L + 2W
244 = 2L + 2(L-17)
Distribute
244 = 2L + 2L -34
Add 34 to each side
278 = 4L
Divide each side by 4
L = 69.5
If the length is 69.5, then the width is 52.5
69.5 + 69.5 + 52.5 + 52.5 = 244
