Answer by JulietG(1812)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2L + 2W = 168
w = 36
Substitute the value of W into the first equation.
2L + 2(36) = 168
2L + 72 = 168
Subtract 72 from each side
2L = 96
Divide each side by 2
L = 48

Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
P = 168 (given perimeter)
W = 36 (given width)
L = unknown (we'll leave it as L for now)

P = 2*(L+W) ... perimeter of rectangle formula

168 = 2*(L+36) ... plug in L = 36 and P = 168, then solve for L (ie isolate it)

168 = 2*L+2*36

168 = 2L+72

168-72 = 2L

96 = 2L

2L = 96

L = 96/2

L = 48

The length of the field is 48 feet
