Question 830554: Brian has two rectangles gardens that have thes ame area but different perimeters. Each garden has an area of 48 sq ft.
Draw two different rectangles with an area of 48 sq ft, but with different perimeters.
Then determine which of your designs will require less fencing

We know that area = length * width (A=L*W)
What are the possible combinations that will fit that problem?
Factors of 48 = 48,1; 24,2; 12,4; 8,6
It wouldn't make a lot of sense to have a 1x48 or 2x24 garden, but you could. We'll use the other two choices.
.
Garden A has a length of 8 and a width of 6
Garden B has a length of 12 and a width of 4
.
To fence the perimeter, use 2 lengths and 2 widths.
P = 2L + 2W
For Garden A, that is (2*8)+(2*6)
For Garden B, that is (2*12) + (2*4)
Which is larger?
A needs 16+12 or 28 feet
B needs 24+8 or 32 feet.
