The length of a red rectangle is 15 cm more than its width w. A blue rectangle, which is 5cm wider and 2 cm shorter than the red one, has a perimeter of 72 cm. make a sketch of the rectangles expressing all dimensions in terms of w. Than find the dimensions of each rectangle.
let
x - be the width of the red rectangle
x+15 - be the length of the red rectangle
x+5 - be the width of the blue triangle
x+13 - be the ength of the blue triangle
Perimeter of the blue triangle is 72
2(x+5) + 2(x+13) = 72
2x+10+2x+26=72
4x=36
x=9
x - be the width of the red rectangle = 9
x+15 - be the length of the red rectangle = 24
x+5 - be the width of the blue triangle = 14
x+13 - be the ength of the blue triangle = 22
The perimeter of the red rectangle is 66
HOPE THAT HELPS! :)
