Question 796612: The length of a rectangle is 2 in longer than its width.
If the perimeter of the rectangle is 32 in, find its area.

Answer by waynest(281)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
length (L) = w + 2
width = w
p = 2w + 2L
2w + 2(w + 2) = 32
2w + 2w + 4 = 32
4w + 4 = 32
4w + 4 - 4 = 32 - 4
4w = 28
4w/4 = 28/4
w = 7
L = 7 + 2
= 9
check:
2(7) + 2(7 + 2) = 32
14 + 2(9) = 32
14 + 18 = 32
32 = 32
