Question 790391: A rectangle has an area of 48 inches squared. Every dimension of the rectangle is multiplied by a scale factor, and the new rectangle has an area of 12 inches squared. What was the scale factor?
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let length be x
then width = 48/x
multiply by factor y
xy = 48y/x
(xy)(48y)/x = 12
48y^2=12
y^2=12/48
y^2= 1/4
y= +/-1/2
= 1/2
