Question 737906: i have a rectangle with area of 180, length is (x) width is (4x+16), what are the two sides? grr i just cant wrap my mind around this
Answer by fcabanski(1391)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Area of a rectangle is length x width.

x * (4x+16) = 180

(x+9)(x-5) = 0

x = -9 and x = 5

-9 gives negative values for length and width. In the real world objects don't have negative lengths and widths.

x=5 so the width is 5 and the length is 4(5)+16 = 36
