By definition length is the longest side length of an object in space. So if there isn't language specifying dimensions or a diagram labeling the length of sides, the length is the longer side.


Sometimes problems specify or label a longer width. If so, follow the givens or labels. It won't change the rectangle's nature.

No, it's just labels.
Look at TV screens, eg, width is the smaller value and length is called height.
The 3rd dimension is depth.
