Question 680160: A rectangle is 8cm longer than twice the width. If the perimeter is 88 cm, what is the area of the rectangle?
Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
l = 2w+8
p = 88
...
88 = 2l + 2w
88 = 2(2w+8) + 2w
88 = 4w + 16 + 2w
88-16 = 4w + 2w
72 = 8w
w = 9 cm
l = 2w+8 = 2(9)+8 = 18 + 8 = 26 cm
...
area is l*w = 9*26 = cm^2
