Question 664410: I have the answer I just need to make sure it is correct. Please confirm.
The length of a rectangle is 2 inches more than the width. If the length and width are each increased by 3 inches, the perimeter of the new rectangle will be 4 inches less than 8 times the width of the original rectangle. Find the demensions.
I have for the original rectangle: Width= 5in, lenght=7in
The new rectangle I have width=8in, lenght=10in, but I had originally had 12inches for the lenght of the new rectangle, but when i checked it with the primeter, it did not work out.

Hi,

length of the 'original' rectangle is 2 inches more than the width
width x
length (x+2)
If the length and width are each increased by 3 inches
New width:
New length:
Question states***
perimeter of the new rectangle will be 4 inches less than 8 times the width of the original rectangle
P = 2L + 2W =
2x+ 10 + 2x + 6 = 8x-4
20 = 4x
x = 5in, width of the original rectangle. length = 7in. Good work
Find the dimensions of the New Rectangle: width = 8in and length 10in. Good work.
