Question 647227: the length of a rectangle is 6 ft longer than its width and the rectangle has a perimeter of 36 ft than what is its area?
Answer by colliefan(242)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
width is w
length is w+6
The perimeter is 2 times the width plus 2 times the length and equals 36 so:
2w + 2(w+6) = 36
2w + 2w + 12 =36
4w +12 = 36
4w + 12 -12 = 36-12
4w+0 = 24
4w =24
4w/4 = 24/4
w=6
If w = 6, then l must be 12.

Substitute back into the original equation to make sure it is correct.
