Question 629209: If you fold a square paper vertically, the new rectangle has a perimeter of 39 inches. What is the area of the original square? What is the perimeter of the original square? What is the area of the resulting rectangle?
Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2x+2y=39
x=y/2
2*y/2+2y=39
3y=39
y=13
13+26=39
x=6.5
y=13
13^2=169 sq inches =area of original square
4*13=52 inches =perimeter of original square.
6.5*13=84.5 sq in area of rectangle
