Question 509746: The perimeter of a rectangle is 44 yards. The length is 2 yards more than three times the width.
Find the width of the rectangle.

Answer by ptaylor(2198)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Perimeter(P) of a rectangle equals 2* Length(L) plus 2*Width(W) or P=2L+2W
Let W=width
Then L=3W+2
soooo,
P=2L+2W or
44=2(3W+2)+2W
6W+4+2W=44
8W=40
W=5 yards-------------------width of rectangle
CK
L=3W+2=3*5+2=17 yards
44=2*17+2*5
44=34+10
44=44
Hope this helps---ptaylor
