This is what i got. I do not think I did it correctly.
2X+2(2X+2)=34 OR 2X+4X+4=34 OR 6X=30 OR X=30/6 OR X=5 This question is from textbook Beginning Algebra

You are correct!! I came up with the same answer:
P=2(length+width)
34=2[(2w+2)+w]
34=2[(2w+2)+w]
34=2[2w+2+w]
34=2[3w+2]
17=3w+2
17-2=3w+2-2
15/3=3w/3
5=w
.
Check by plugging (w=5) back into the original equation]
34=2[(2(5)+2)+(5)]
34=2[(2(5)+2)+(5)]
34=34 [Checks out]
