Question 476237: The perimeter of a rectangle is 252 inches. The length exceeds the width by 56 inches. Find the length and the width.
Answer by ccs2011(207) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2L + 2W = 252
L = W + 56
Use substitution
2(W+56) + 2W = 252
Distribute
2W + 112 + 2W = 252
Combine like terms
4W = 140
Divide by 4 on both sides
W = 35
L = 35 + 56 = 91
