Question 460071: If both the length and width of a rectangle are made 4 times longer, how many times the area of the original figure is the area of the new figure?
Answer by Alan3354(69443)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4 times longer = 5 times as long
--> 25 times the area
--------------------------
4 times longer = 5 times as long
If 1 times longer = 2 times as long, then 4 times longer = 5 times as long
right?
If 4 times longer = 4 times as long, then 1 times longer = the same length, so it wouldn't be called longer.
-----------
4 times longer is often used when the person means 4 times as long. That's not correct.
Don't even mention "10 times slower."
