Question 4473: The ancient Greeks discovered that a rectsngle where the length-to-width ratio was 8 to 5 ( known as the golden ratio) were most pleasing to the eye. Kayla wants to create a painting that will be framed by some antique molding that she found. If she calculates that the molding can be used to make a frame of 104 inches in perimeter, what dimensions should her painting be so that it is visually appealing?
Answer by xcentaur(357)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
required ratio of length to breadth = 8:5
perimeter=2(l+b)=104 inches
l+b=52 inches

let ratio of l:b=8:5
then l=8x and b=5x

then 8x+5x=52
13x=52
x=4

l=8x=32"
b=5x=20"

hence it should have dimensions of: 32 inches by 20 inches
