the part I don't get about this problem is the radical 17 part because I don't know what a radical is...

Note: some use 'radical 17' as a way of expressing = 4.1 to the nearest 10th.
If Jenny is 4.1yds away and Tim 4.2 yards away...Jenny would be closer to You
