Suppose the perimeter of a rectangle is 200 feet and the length of the rectangle is 5 feet less than twice the width. Find the width.
...
let width be w
twice the width = 2w
less 5
=2w-5
length = 2w-5
...
2*(L+W)=perimeter
2*(2w-5+w)=200
2*(3w-5)=200
/2
3w-5=100
add +5 to both sides
3w=105
/3
3w/3=105/3
w=35 feet the width
Length = 2w-5
2*35-5
=70-5
=65 feet.
