Question 369171: The perimeter of a field is 500 feet. Its width (shorter side) is 32 feet less than half its length (longer side). What is its width?
Answer by robertb(5830)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
P = 500 = 2l + 2w
w = l/2 - 32.
By direct substitution, 2l + 2(l/2 - 32) = 500.
2l + l-64 =500,
3l = 564,
l = 188 feet, the length of the rectangle.
w = 94 - 32 = 62 feet, the width of the rectangle.
