Question 318000: An isosceles triangle has two sides of equal length. The length of the third side is 2 ft less than twice the length of an equal side.
Find the length of the equal sides when the perimeter is 46 ft.

Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
S=2L-2
P=2L+S
46=2L+2L-2
42=4L-2
4L=42+2
4L=44
L=44/4
L=11 ANS. FOR THE 2 EQUAL LENGTHS.
S=2*11-2
S=2*11-2=22-2=20 ANS. FOR THE SIDE.
PROOF:
42=2*11+20
42=22+20
42=42
