Question 31269: Suppose that a rectangle of area 7.8 ft squared down by a factor of a=1/2. Use the scaling laws to determine the area of the new smaller rectangle. What would this be?
Answer by josmiceli(19441)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if 1/a is the factor to scale down lengths, 1/a^2
is the factor to scale down area(1/4)(7.8) = 1.95
the new area is 1.95 ft2
you can check this
suppose the sides are 2 and 3.9
that gives an area of 7.8
scale them down by 1/2
sides are 1 and 1.95
the new area is 1*1.95 = 1.95
checks
