Area = 104 ft^2
Let's length be L and width be w
L = w + 5 (The length of the room is 5 feet longer than the width.)
Area in term of L and w gives: w(w+5)
Therefore,
w(w+5) = 104
w^2 + 5w - 104 = 0
(w + 13)(w-8) = 0
w + 13 = 0 , w = - 13 (N/A)
or
w - 8 = 0 , w = 8ft
Length = (w + 5) = 8 + 5 = 13 ft
Answer: Length = 13 ft and width = 8 ft
