Let x = width
then
4.5x = length
.
Rect B:
x+8 = width
4.5x-20 = length
.
Since area is the same:
x(4.5x) = (x+8)(4.5x-20)
4.5x^2 = 4.5x^2-20x+36x-160
4.5x^2 = 4.5x^2+16x-160
0 = 16x-160
160 = 16x
10 inches = x
