Question 290564: The width of a rectangle is 4 cm less than its length. The area of the rectangle is 96 CM ^2. Find the legnth and width of the rectangle.
I think the equation is
(L-4) * L = 96 CM ^2
L^2 - 4L=96
How do I get rid of the 4L? So I can take the square root of the number on the right? Is the second step of the formula correct?my formalus

The width of a rectangle is 4 cm less than its length. The area of the rectangle is 96 CM ^2. Find the length and width of the rectangle.
I think the equation is
(L-4) * L = 96 CM ^2
L^2 - 4L=96
How do I get rid of the 4L?
Subtract 96 from both sides:
L^2-4L-96 = 0
(L+8)(L-12) = 0
Positive solution:
Length = 12 cm
Width = L-4 = 8 cm
