Question 265954: The length a rectangle is 6 inches more than twice its width the perimeter is 72 inches what is the length and the width?
Answer by drk(1908)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let L = length and width
(i) L = 2W + 6
Let
(ii) P = 2L + 2W
which is
(iii) 72 = 2L + 2W
or
(iv) 36 = L + W
substituting (i) into (Iv) we get
(v) 36 = 2W + 6 + W
which is
36 = 3W + 6
and then 30 = 3W
so
W = 10 inches
L = 26 inches
