Ok 1 side of the rectangle (length) is x+3
so 2 sides of the rectangle (length) is 2*(x+3) = 2x+6
2 sides of the width is 2x
The perimeter means the total length around the rectangle. So we need to add up all the sides:
2x+6+2x =42
4x+6=42
4x=36
x=9
so width is 9 and length is 12.
