The length of a rectangle is 6 cm more than the width. The area is 11 cm2. Find the length and width.
lets call width w, then length will be w+6 since area is 11 then
w(w+6)=11
w^2+6w-11=0

since our answer can't be negative because width can't be negative our answer would be
(about 5.9) and since length was 6 more than width
then length is
(about 11.9)
