Question 219625: I NEED HELP: THIS IS THE QUESTION!
An NFL playing field is a rectangle. The length of the field (excluding the end zones) is 40 more yards than twice the width. The perimeter of the playing field is 260 yards. What are the dimensions of the field in yards?
WHAT I NEED HELP ON IS CREATING AND EQUATION TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I CANT FIGURE OUT WHAT "40 MORE YARDS THAN TWICE THE WIDTH" MEANS AND HOW TO PUT THAT INTO AN EQUATION.

Answer by rfer(16322)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
P=2w+2l
260=2x+2(2x+40)
260=2x+4x+80
260=6x+80
subtract 80 from both sides
180=6x
30=x
x=30yds
2x+40=100yds
---------------
2*30+2*100=260
