If you mean the perimeter:
2L+2W=136
L=4W-7
2(4W-7)+2W=136
8W-14+2W=136
10W=136+14
10W=150
W=150/10
W=15 FEET IS THE WIDTH.
L=4*15-7=60-7=53 FEET IS THE LENGTH.
PROOF:
2*53+2*15=136
106+30=136
136=136

The perimeter of a rectangle is 136 feet. The length is seven feet less than four times the width. Find the length and width.

Step 1. Let l = 4w-7 length of rectangle and let w be the width. And we are given that length is seven feet less than 4 times the width.

Step 2. Let P = 136 ft be the perimeter. Perimeter means adding the 4 sides of a rectangle. So,

Step 3. Add 14 to both sides of equation to get 4w by itself

Step 4. Divide 10 to both sides of equation

l=4w-7=60-7=53 ft

Step 5. w = 15 is the width of the rectangle and length is 53 since

Check P=10w-14=10(15)-14=136 So w = 15 ft and l = 53 ft is the solution.
