I picture this as having two layers of 3 rectangles inside a rectangle x by y
This would give you 3 lengths and 4 widths, therefore:
3x + 4y = 1000
4y = 1000 - 3x
y = - x
y = 250 - .75x

substitute (250-.75x) for y:
A = x(250-.75x)
A = 250x - .75x^2
Written as a quadratic equation:
