Question 1171943: The length of a rectangle is three times the width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 40 inches. What is the area of the rectangle (in square inches)?
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
width is x
length is 3x
every rectangle has 2 equal widths and 2 equal lengths
so the perimeter is 2x+2(3x)=40
x=5
width is 5 in
length is 15 in
area is 75 in^2
-
half perimeter is length+width, which is 20 in.
this is 4x=20,cx=5 inches
75 sq in is the answer.
