Question 1086061: if the length of BD in square ABCD is x ft. What is the size of the shaded area
There is a inscribed circle (sunshade) in the square.
area of the square - area of the circle

The area of the square is x^2/2 as written.
The radius of the circle is (1/2)(x*sqrt(2)/2)
The radius squared is (1/4)(x^2*2)*pi
The difference is x^2/4-pi*x^2/4=(x^2/4)(1-pi/4)
For a unit square it is 1-pi/4, so that is the factor one is looking for.
