The length of a rectangle is 2 cm longer than its width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 28 cm, find its area
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let W = the width.
Then the length = W+2.
The perimeter is
2W + 2(W+2) = 28,
4W + 4 = 28  --->  4W = 28-4  --->  4W = 24  --->  W =  = 6.
Answer. The dimensions are 6 and 8. The area is 6*8 = 48 .
