Question 1000691: The length of a rectangle is 12 feet longer than twice the width. If the perimeter is 114 feet, find the length and width of the rectangle.
Answer by fractalier(6550) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Perimeter P = 2L + 2W = 114 and we are also given that
L = 12 + 2W
Substitute that into the first equation and get
2(12+2W)+2W = 114
24 + 4W + 2W = 114
6W+24=114
6W = 90
W = 15 feet
L = 12 + 2(15) = 42 feet
