Question 57120: I am stumped by this one. Use transformations to help graph f(x)=3^(1-x)-4. Also identify domain, range and horizontal asymptote and whether the graph is increasing or decreasing. I know the graph will move 4 to the right. The part that is throwing me off is the exponent. I know -x is a reflection about the x-axis. Please help.

Question 57124This question is from textbook College Algebra: Graphs and Models
: Ok, I'm not sure if this problem is in this section but I didn't see a "parabolas" title anywhere. I know the answer to this problem, but I have know idea how to get it. It's finding the y-coordinate of the vertex of this parabola function:
g(x)= 2x^2+6x+8
I know how to find the x-coordinate, and when I checked it, I was right, but my answer for the y-coordinate is 7/4 and the book says its supposed to be 7/2. Please help me, I have a test on this tomorrow and I really need to know what I'm leaving out of this problem so I don't do it on the test!!!This question is from textbook College Algebra: Graphs and Models

Question 57272This question is from textbook
: We are asked to graph the following quadradic equation -f(x)=X^2-3x+1.
AS I graph it the parabola opens up, 3 spaces up and is moved over 1 space to the right. However according to the book it opens down and over 1 and up the y-axis 3 spaces. If X^2 is positive I thought it opened up?!?! where am I going wrong or what do I not understand?? Any help will be appreciated on this.
Thanks in advance. This question is from textbook

Question 58148: I've gotten this problem wrong twice so I'm obviously doing something wrong.
find f(x/2) when f(x)=x^3-4x^2
my solution: (x/2)^3-4(x/2)^2= (x^3/2^3)-4(x^2/2^2)= x^3/8 - 4x^3/4
x^3/8 - (4x^3/4)(2)= x^3/8 - 8x^3/8= -7x^3/8
sooo...it looks right to me, but it's not. Any example would be great! Thanks!

Question 58160: one of my problems for a domain and range section was pretty difficult...I'm not sure what part of the problem I got wrong because it wasn't specified.
find the domain algebraically and the range graphically.
square root of(x^2-2x-8)
> is greater than or equal to since I don't know how to type the sign
here's what I did: x^2-2x-8 > 0
(x-4)(x+2) > 0
x>4 x>-2 and the x can't be negative due to the square root.
Domain: (-infinity, -2] U [4, infinity)
Range: (-infinity, -2] U [4, infinity)
Do I have the domain and range correct?
