Question 592753: Find the critical point of the function Then, determine whether the point represents a maximum, minimum, or a point of inflection.
Okay, I did this problem by hand and simplified the equation down to -2x^2+4x-7 using order of operations; I squared x-1, multplied the answer by -2, and subtracted 3 from that answer. Then I tried using the quadratic formula, but it didn't turn out. So I graphed my simplified equation (-2x^2+4x-7) and came up with an upside-down hyperbola with the max point at -5. Is this my answer? And if it is, how do I show my work for this since I used my calculator to graph?
If this is wrong, please show me where I strayed and how to get to the correct answer. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God bless you for your time!

When I worked this problem out, I got {-3, 2}
But the answer is {-2} I don't understand how they got that.
My work:
3x-9 *(2) = -3x * x-3

x-3 2
6x -18 -3x^2 +9x
------- = -----------
(x-3)(2) (2)(x-3)
(Subtract 6x -18 to get it on one side.)
-3x^2 +9x -6x -18
----------------- SIGN ERROR S/B +18
(x-3)(2)
Combine like terms
-3x^2 +3x -18
---------------
(x-3)(2)
(Factor)
(-3)(-18) =54
-3x^2 -6x +9x-18
----------------
(x-3)(2)
3x(x-2) 9(x-2)
(3x+9)(x-2)
3x+9=0
-9 -9
3x=-9
/3 /3
x=-3
x-2=0
+2
x=2
I really don't understand how to solve this.

Question 592856: I am curious as how to accurately solve for X in the problem:
√3-X(Numerator)
√2x(Denominator)
equals 2
I have squared both sides leading me to (3-x)/(2x)=4 However, I do not know what to do after that step. I have tried elimination but do not get the right answer. I would greatly appreciate help on this subject. Thank you.

Question 595136: (2/3)+(5/(y-4))=(y+6)/(3y-12). Solve the equation and check your solution. If there is no solution, say so. I saw on another post that the answer is(-1/3) and 9. How can this be? I tried the quadratic equation, but that just made me even more confused. I tried factoring the denominators, but I don't know what to do next. Please help. If I could figure out what the first step should be, I could do it. Thanks so much!
