Question 220553: If f(x-2)=6x-7, what is f(x)?
The answer is f(x)=6x+5, but I have no idea how the answer is found! I keep ending up with 6x-17. Here is what I did....
f(x)= 6(x-2)+2-7
f(x)= 6x-12-5
f(x)= 6x-17
Please help! I think you're supposed to add 2 somewhere but I don't know where, why or how!

Question 222910: Dear Sir:
I am trying to solve the following equation for x:
y = {e^x} / {1 + 2e^x}
I have tried various approaches but they do not seem to work:
(1) multiplying both sides of the equation by the value of the denominator and then taking the logarithms of both sides.
(2) rewriting the equation using fractional exponents and then trying to simplify the right hand side before taking the logarithm of both sides
But, of course when I take the logarithm of both sides I cannot separate the expression in the parenthesis. Obviously, I am on the wrong track, but I have not found any help in my math books or my professor's notes.
Is it possible for you to help me. I would be very grateful for advise and an illustration of the appropriate method.
Very truly yours,
Lawrence G. Lever (an older student returning to mathematics after many years)

Question 224515: given f(x)=sqrt x+3 and g(x)=6x find f(g(x)) i.e.(fog)(x) and find (fog)(1)
I know that you need to replace the x in sqrt of x +3 so it would read sqrt 6x+3
then would I change that to (6x+3)^2 =36x^2+36x+9.

Question 224671: I need help on finding the numerical value of the rational expression:
and
I have answered correctly when x=2 which is 1/3, but when x=-3 I keep coming up with -27/-72 which simplifys to 3/8 right? my homework which is on online classes shows that the correct answer is 3/4, I would like to know how it ends up being 3/4 instead of 3/8. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Question 226869: Simplify each expression. Write your answers with positive
exponents. Assume that all variables represent positive real
numbers.
(-27x9)1/3
The 9 is a 'to the power of' number and the 1/3 is also like a to the power number on the outside of the parenthesis, as in being smaller like the 9 should be. Does this make sense to anyone?? I hope because I really need help with how I am supposed to do it, can someone please help me??
