Question 216187: Hi, I'm taking an online college algebra class but can't quite recall all the review concepts and am really stuck on this problem--
Factor the expression completely:
4x^4 + 1 + 3x²
Answer: (2x² + x + 1)(2x² - x - 1)
I can't figure out how to get the answer, it won't factor like a regular trinomial and doesn't come out right if I separate out the x², for instance.
And since I've been just trying to learn online so far (my textbook hasn't arrived yet), I really don't get how each set of terms has three factors instead of two. Hope my question makes sense, my math-speak probably isn't too great.
I would really appreciate any help you can give me. And feel free to dumb it down! Also if you know where I could find more problems similar to this for practice, that would be fantastic.
Thanks--
EL

Question 217259: Please help me solve this rational equation, this is a sample problem and I have the answer we are suppose to study this but I'm not sure how they got certain numbers.
5/2x = 17/18 - 1/3x I know that x cancels out o
this is as far as I got then started getting confused.
18x x 5/2x = 18x (17/18 - 1/3x
18x x 5/2x = 18x x 17/18 - 18x x 1/3x
45 = 17x - 6
45+ 6 = 17x - 6 + 6
51=17x
51/17=17x/17 3=x I got lost starting at 45= 17x - 6 I don't know how they got the 45 and 17 so therefore I got confused through out the rest. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Question 217952: f(h(x))= when f(x) = 2x-1 and h = x+4
I took (2x-1)(x+4) and that gave me 2x^+8x-x-4 which i 2x^+7x-4 but my options for an answer are 2x+3, 2x+7, 7, and 2x^+7x-8 - i dont get any of them and i have been working on this for 2 hours. Can anyone please help me - thank you.

Question 218381: We are working on rational expressions. I can not seem to get the jist of building rational expressions to higher terms. Example, I know that if x +3 was mulitiplied by x^2 + 3^2 the result would be x^3 + 27. That's easy enough, but I have problems writing that in correctly factored form. Any hints on how I can get better at this? Example/Question: How would I correctly write 12/x +3 = ?/ x^3 + 27? Thanks for your assistance, tips and suggestions.
