Question 179333: Can you please help me solve this rational equation? 3/x^2-16+5/x-4=5/x+4
This problem is not from a text book ,it is from a worksheet.
I have tried to solve it and this is my work so far, I'm stuck.
3/x^2(x-4)(x+4)/x^2-16+5(x-4)(x+4)/x-4=5(x-4)(x+4)
3+5(x+4)=5(x-4)
3+5x+20=5x-20
0=-43
so does that mean there is no solution???? or have I done something wrong?

Question 180333This question is from textbook Algebra & Trigonometry
: Determine Algebraically weather the function is even, odd, or neither.
h(x)= x / (x^2-1) or x over x squared minus one
My understanding>> I know you can fill in h(-x) at which point if the answer comes out to be h(-x) then it is odd, or h(x)then it is even. If the answer is neither then it is (well) neither.
Where I get confused is >> When I fill in negative x to the denominator I then have a negative numerator and a negative denominator which in turn becomes positive (right?). Then, when my fraction becomes positive- do I change the (-1) to a (+1) [second position of the denominator]?
Afterwards, should I cross multiply (assuming the value of h(-x) can be placed over one.. OR should I multiply both sides by my denominator and work from there?
Please help.This question is from textbook Algebra & Trigonometry

Question 180578This question is from textbook Sullivan Algebra and Trigonoetry
: f(x)=-3x^2 + 5x
If f(x)=-2, what is x? What point(s) are on the graph of f?
My understanding>>>
-2=-3x^2+5x
0=-3x^2+5x+2
Factor it (I believe this is where I am messing up)
0= (??_ ??)(??_??)
Set both to zero
0= (??_??) 0=(??_??)
Solve for each.
Am I using the right process to solve for x?
How do I factor this properly? (my signs are not comming out right when I foil my answer to check it)
How would I determine my domain after I have determined the value of x?This question is from textbook Sullivan Algebra and Trigonoetry

Question 180779This question is from textbook Sullivan Algebra and Trigonometry
: f(x)= 2x^2/ x^4+1
In regards to 27c, d, e, and f.
c>> if f(x)=-1, what is x? what points are on the graph of f?
My understanding...
-1=2x^2/x^4+1
My confusion is really how to solve for x (due to the fraction with exponents)
d>> what is the domain of f? The answer is all real numbers. Why?
e>> List the X Intercept.
f>> List the Y Intercept.
My understanding...
both intercepts are zero. My graph comes out to be a short line symmertrical to the y axis where both x and y are intercepting at the orgin (0,0)This question is from textbook Sullivan Algebra and Trigonometry
