Question 133517: Analyze and graph the following rational function. F(x) = x^4 -16 / x^2 -1.
This function closely approaches a certain curve. Find the equation of this curve by performing long division.
You must determine other asymptotes, zeroes, symmetry, and use all of this information to graph the function.

Question 133538This question is from textbook College algebra
: Let f(x)=x+1 and g(x)=6 /x+1
Find (f*g)(1)
Here is what I have, but it seems to be incorrect. Can you please let me know where I've gone wrong?
f=1+1 and g=6/1+1
f=2 and g=6/2
f=2 and g=3
(2*3)=6
This is how I completed this one, but when I took my test, six was not the correct answer. Unfortunately, the correct answer is not given. I am curious to see what I did wrong.This question is from textbook College algebra

Question 134358: Hi can you help me with this math problem?
Find the indicated composite for the pair of functions.
x-3
(gof)(x):f(x)= 6 , g(x)=6x+3
I DIDNT KNOW HOW TO DRAW THE LINE FOR X-3 OVER SIX THATS WHY IT LOOKS LIKE THAT BUT ITS SUPPOSED TO BE X-3 OVER 6.
THE ANSWER SHOULD BE X

Question 134359: Please help me with this problem. Thank You!
Graph the function.
f(x)= 4x+2, if x<-2
x , if -2(less than or equal to sign) x (less than or equal to sign) 3
3x-1, if x>3
everything after the equals sign are in one bracket ({)
Please help me-I keep getting this wrong on my assignments and tests. Thank You!

Question 134472: A random sample of 10 miniature Tootsie Rolls was taken from a bag. Each piece was weighed on
a very accurate scale. The results in grams were
3.087 3.131 3.241 3.241 3.270 3.353 3.400 3.411 3.437 3.477
(a) Construct a 90 percent confidence interval for the true mean weight. (b) What sample size
would be necessary to estimate the true weight with an error of ± 0.03 grams with 90 percent confidence?
(c) Discuss the factors which might cause variation in the weight of Tootsie Rolls during
manufacture.

Question 134489: I've been presented with this question:
Solve the inequality [1/(x + 1)] > [1/(x – 1)]. State the solution set using interval notation.
I started off by subtracting -[1/(x-1)] from each side to get
[1/(x + 1)] - [1/(x – 1)] > 0
Then I got the common denominator of [1(x-1)/(x + 1)(x-1)] - [1(x+1)/(x+1)(x – 1)]
This results in [0/(x + 1)(x – 1)] which is 0. What am I doing wrong?

Question 134870This question is from textbook
: Iodine-131 is a radioactive material used to treat a certain types of cancer. Iodine-131 has half-life of 8 days, which means that it tkes 8 days for half of an initial sample to decay. The percent of radioactive material that remains after t days can be detemined from the expression 100(1/2)^t/h, where h is the half-life in days.
a.what percent of a sample of iodine-131 will remain after 20 days?
b.Another form of raioactive iodine used in cancer treatment is iodine-125. Iodine-125 has a half-life of 59 days. A hospital has 20 g of iodine-125 and 20 g of Iodine-131 left over from treating patients. How much more iodine-125 than iodine-131 will remain after a period of 30 days?This question is from textbook

Question 135069: This is not a text book question
Given F(x) = 4x^2-1/x^2 -16
a) find x intercepts
b) y intercepts
c) Find the vertical asymptote (write as equation of a line)
d) Find the horizontal asymptote (write as equation of line)
e) For x>4, is there a value which F(x) cannot exceed, and/or value which F(x) cannot fall below? Explain
f) Find maximum or minimum in interval and state whether it is a maximum or minimum value for that interval
g) Describe what happens on graph when x approaches infinity.
I have several questions like this, but need direction on one, to help with the rest. I have the vertical asymptotes as 4 and -4 and the horizontal as 4.
