Question 28283: I'm really lost at math. It's been about 19 years and I'm back in college. College algebra has been given to me without taking a refresher course. I am ohhh so lost. I have a 2-part question and would appreciate if someone would show me step by step how to do these.
1)For the equation x-2 sqrt of x = 0, solve for all values of x that satisfies the question.
2)Graph the functions y=x and y=2 sqrt of x on the same graph (by plotting points if necessary). Show the points of intersection of these two graphs.

Question 28570: This word problem has got me stumped. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
The percent of deaths caused by smoking is modeled by the rational funtion defined by: P(X)=X-1/X
where x is the number of times a smoker is more likely to die of lung cancer than a nonsmoker. x is equal to 10.
Please help me find:
a. p(x) if x is 10
b. For what values of x is p(x) = 80%
c. Can the incidence rate equal zero, explain.
I know this is asking alot, but I have been over this several times, and can't even figure out where to begin.

Question 29099: Please help me solve the equation (x^2-3x)/(4x^2-3x)*(4x^2-16)
I have tried to follow the instructions in my book by factoring it to:
x(x-3)/4x(x-2)*(2x+4)(2x-4)
can you please show the problem step by step since i have others like it that i would like to know how to solve

Question 29340: The question is: Show that the nth-order finite differences for the function f(x)= x^2 - 4x + 4 of degree n are nonzero and constant. Question 29436: Problem states: "Let P=(x,y) be a point on the graph of y= square root of x. Express the distance "d" from point P to the point (1,0) as a function of x."
I get to "square root of (x-1)^ + y^", then I'm confused. Please help

Question 29724: Would someone please explain factoring to me? For example, the difference of two cubes 8x^3-1, I know that 2x three times makes the first term and the cube of 1 is one-ok now I'm lost. How does this factor? Thank you in advance
