Question 928873: Can you please help me find the rate of change of the function from x1 to x2: f (x)=sqrt( 3x ) for x1=1 to x2=7
Answer by rothauserc(4718)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
f(x) = sqrt( 3x )
note that f(x) = square root(3) * square root(x) = 1.73 * square root(x)
this is a parabola with an imaginary and real part
for x1 = 1 and x2 = 7 we will be dealing with the real part
rate of change between two points is (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)
y2 = 1.73 * square root(7) = 4.58
y1 = 1.73 * square root(1) = 1.73
rate of change = (4.58 - 1.73) / (7 - 1) = 0.475 approx 0.48
