Question 861314: Write your answer using a compound inequality. Please solve and explain how to work this problem.
Answer by josgarithmetic(39617) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Critical points happen for n=0 and n=-1. Understand that . At n=-1, the numerator is zero, but your inequality must be LESS than zero, so .
What you want to do is test the three intervals which the critical points form and find if each interval satisfies or not satisfies the inequality.
Test each interval:
;
Expression will be positive, so it does not satisfy.
;
, which will be negative, so this interval is a solution.
. Expression is positive, so does not satisfy.
I just do not see how to make a compound inequality for this exercise; but discussing the possible intervals worth checking, here done. (The interval statements may be the compound inequalities which you want).
