How many cups of onion are needed to make 117 cups of salsa?

Let x = the multiplier
then
1x + 3x + 9x = 117
13x = 117
x = 117/13
x = 9 is the multiplier
therefore
3*9 = 27 cups of onions to make 117 cups of salsa
