Question 818598: Please help me this problem:
The equation is 1/m-8 = m/m-14. I have attempted to solve this question with factoring and a little short cut that my teacher taught my class.
First, I changed the denominators and numerators so they matched: 1(m-14)/(m-8)(m-14) = m(m-8)/(m-14)(m-8)
Then, I combined them by moving the right side to the left: m+4-m^2-8m/(m-14)(m-8)
I then combined the like terms and made the numerator a quadratic equation: -m^2-7m+4
I factored it and ended up with -3, -4 but when I substituted these numbers into the original equation, the left side didn't equal the right. I have redone this problem many times, but I always end up with those same answers. Please help.

Please help me this problem:
The equation is 1/m-8 = m/m-14
--------------
Cross-multiply to get:
m-14 = m(m-8)
-------
m^2-8m -m + 14 = 0
m^2-9m+14 = 0
(m-2)(m-7) = 0
m = 2 or m = 7
===================
