The LCD is 6, so multiply BOTH side of (1) by 6 to get

Check this with (1).
Is (1/2 -(3-2)/3 = 1/6)?
Is (1/2 - 1/3 = 1/6)?
Is ((3-2)/2*3 = 16)?
Is (1/6 = 1/6)? Yes
Answer: x = 3
