Question 77038: Find an equation of a line passing through the points (3,3) and (-1,8)
Answer by checkley75(3666) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
FIRST WE FIND THE SLOPE (Y2-Y1)/(X2-X1)
(8-3)/(-1-3)=5/-4=-5/4
NOW WE SUBSTITUTE ONE SET OF (X,Y) VALUES & SOLVE FOR THE Y INTERCEPT(b)
3=-5/4*3+b
3=-15/4+b
b=3+15/4
b=(12+15)/4
b=27/4
THUS THE EQUATION IS
Y=-5/4X+27/4
(graph 300x200 pixels, x from -6 to 5, y from -10 to 10, y = -5x/4 +27/4).
