I think I get the second part of the equation, but the first part is confusing to me. Could you please explain it all to me? Thank you. These aren't really like terms, so you can't combine them, but you could factor a little. I'm not sure if that's what you want.

= {sqrt (x^2*(x-1)) } + {sqrt (3^2*(x-1)) }
= |x|*{sqrt (x-1)}+ 3*{sqrt(x-1)}
= {|x|+3}*{sqrt (x-1) }
