Can you please help me simplify this by combining like radical terms, if possible. I am just confused about how to start the equation. I think I get the second part of the equation, but the first part is confusing to me. Could you please explain it all to me? Thank you.

These aren't really like terms, so you can't combine them, but you could factor a little. I'm not sure if that's what you want.

= {sqrt (x^2*(x-1)) } + {sqrt (3^2*(x-1)) }
= |x|*{sqrt (x-1)}+ 3*{sqrt(x-1)}
= {|x|+3}*{sqrt (x-1) }
