I assume you mean:
+ 2 = 4
:
If you can get the square root on one side of the equation by itself, it
becomes an easy matter to get rid of the radical by squaring both sides
:
Subtract 2 from both sides and you have:
= 4 - 2
= 2
:
Square both sides and you have:
3x + 1 = 4
3x = 4 - 1
3x = 3
x = 3/3
x = 1
:
Substitute +1 for x in the original equation to prove our solution
